quipex + SMARTLIGHT and CALHIPSO, 2 projects selected for funding

Tags :

On the recommendation of the Steering Committee for the Structuring Equipment for Research (ESR / EquipEx +) action which was held on November 6 and 23, 2020, the Prime Minister decided to retain for funding the SMARTLIGHT project piloted by Benoit CLUZEL as well as the CALHIPSO project, led by Frédéric BERNARD, both researchers at the ICB laboratory.

SMARTLIGHT

Coordinated by Benoit Cluzel, Lecturer in Physics at the University of Burgundy (UB, member of UBFC), this project combines a very high level of scientific excellence and complementary expertise among the members of the Interdisciplinary Carnot laboratory in Burgundy ( ICB, Joint Research Unit 6303 CNRS-UBFC), and the FEMTO-ST Institute (Franche-Comté Electronics, Mechanical, Thermal and Optic – Sciences and Technologies, UMR 6174 CNRS-UBFC). The project will merge the ICB and FEMTO-ST photonics platforms into a shared platform open to scientific and industrial communities working in the field of photonics and artificial intelligence. More than 120 scientists will develop cutting-edge research in nano-optics, ultrafast photonics, fiber optics, non-linear photonics, quantum optics and telecommunications.

SMARTLIGHT is a research platform with key facilities to generate new knowledge in smart photonics, while being involved in industrial innovation. It is based on the merger of the PICASSO platforms of the Carnot Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Burgundy (ICB) and Fri-Light of the FEMTO-ST Institute into a shared platform in the BFC region open to scientific and industrial communities working in the field of photonics and artificial intelligence.

CALHIPSO

Coordinated by Frédéric Bernard, professor of physical chemistry at the University of Burgundy (UB, member of UBFC), this project brings together partners demonstrating long experience in the implementation of HIP technology: the team of Prof. Bernard within the Interdisciplinary Carnot laboratory in Burgundy (ICB, Joint Research Unit 6303 CNRS-UBFC), the Innovation laboratory for New Energy Technologies and nanomaterials at the CEA in Grenoble, the Materials Shaping Center ( Joint Research Unit 7635 CNRS-Paris Sciences Lettres / Mines ParisTech) and the company Framatome. This partnership provides the CALHIPSO project with a rich scientific environment and complementary equipment both from the point of view of manufacturing processes and that of means of characterization.

CALHIPSO (Compaction and assembly of metal alloys by HIP, an InnOvante Solution) is an ambitious project for the implementation of HIP technology (“Hot Isostatic Pressing”) in the metallurgical industry (aeronautics, defense, nuclear…). This project proposes a global approach of experimentation, modeling and simulation which will make it possible to define HIP solutions tailored to industrial needs.
