Career abstract

Philippe Grelu has been Professor of Physics at Université de Bourgogne, in Dijon, France, since 2005. After receiving his PhD at University of Orsay (Paris XI) in quantum optics (1996), his interest moved to ultrafast nonlinear optics and mode-locked fiber lasers. He developed a key expertise in nonlinear optical cavity dynamics, with major contributions in the fast developing field of dissipative solitons. He has delivered numerous invited talks at international conferences and authored over 180 scientific publications. He edited the following monograph: Nonlinear Optical Dynamics, from Microresonators to Fiber Lasers, WILEY-VCH (2016).

  • 2014-2018: Coordinator of the Franco-Indian project CEFIPRA/IFCPAR n°5104-2 « Pattern formation and self-similarity in nonlinear media » (with Prof. K. Porsezian, University of Pondicherry, India).
  • 2012-2020:  Participant in the LABEX ACTION 2 (Laboratory of excellence for smart systems, ANR-11-LABX-01-01).

  • 2005-2010: Coordinator of the ANR project NEOSOLITON (Blanc, CSD 4, ANR-05-BLAN-0152-01) – « Control of dissipative optical structures : soliton molecules, novel spatio-temporal solitons and applications ». 
  • 2010-2014: Coordinator of the ANR project SOLICRISTAL (Blanc, CSD 4, ANR-2010-BLAN-0417-01) – « Soliton ensembles in a laser cavity: collective behaviors, phase transitions and application to the generation of optical pulses with high repetition-rate ». Collaborator: Uni. Angers (Prof. Sanchez). 
  • 2005-2011:  French coordinator of the Franco-Chinese project PRA 15660SL: « Nonlinear optical devices based on microfibers and nanofibers » (with Prof. L. Tong, Zhejiang University, China).
  • 2010-2014:  PARI (Plan d’Action Régional pour l’Innovation) funded by the Province of Burgundy (Région Bourgogne). Topic leader.
  • 2013-2017:  Topic leader in the ANR project OPTIROC (ANR-12-BS04-0011) – « Optical rogue waves in nonlinear cavities »).
