 Interface and reactivity Materials Department : laser and materials treatment

Dominique Grevey is Professor at the University of Burgundy which he joined in 1989 after a first experience at the Ministry of Defence.

It develops a scientific activity in the field of materials processing by energy beams (laser, hybrid laser, electron beam, arc ...) and is particularly interested in joining dissimilar materials and surface functionalization.

Ongoing projects

  • Coordination of the LabCom FLAMme, laboratory jointly operated with the SME Laser Rhône Alpes (topics: Laser Beams and assembly of dissimilar materials);
  • Industrial Projects: corrosion behaviour of duplex steels welded by laser, hard cladding of cutting blades ...

Past projects

  • Materials processing by laser. Main processes and induced effects in materials: assembly (welding, brazing, soldering), cladding/coating, surface treatment, marking, cutting, drilling [Master level]
  • Welding metallurgy. Study of the molten zone, of the heat affected zone, types of defects and their origins (particularization for steels, stainless steels, aluminum alloys), combinations of dissimilar materials [Bachelor and Master levels]
  • Physico-chemical analysis. Spectroscopy, electrochemistry and chromatography techniques [DUT level]
  • Quality management. Motivations, role management, consumer satisfaction, staff involvement, continuous improvement process, partnerships with suppliers ... [Bachelor level]

In 1994, he established the laboratory "Laser and Materials Processing" which merged with the Physics Laboratory of the University of Burgundy and the research laboratory on the reactivity of solids to form the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire Carnot de Bourgogne (UMR 6303) in 2007.

Between 2003 and 2012 he was in charge of the dissemination of research at the université de Bourgogne. During this period he set up the maturation device certified by the Ministry of Research, directed the regional incubator of Burgundy (2003- 2004) and conducted the project to create the subsidiary of the université de Bourgogne. He was the Scientific Director of the Materials & Technologies department until 2014.

He was also project manager for the creation of the Institut Universitaire de Technologie de Chalon-sur-Saône in 2003, Head of the teaching department "Physical Measurements at the IUT Le Creusot" and in charge for a bachelor's degree in the laser and materials treatment area.

Finally, he leads the Research Federation "Materials Science and Technology" since 2012 and sits on the scientific advisory board of the PNB competitiveness cluster and on the Board of Directors of the burgundian centre for scientific, technical and industrial culture. He is also Special Adviser to the Vice-President of the University delegate to cultural policies.
